CHAPTER 7

A ilish had the most incredible dream. She was tucked in the large, rustic bed with Jed, her body folded around his. Their limbs tangled and their skin mingled. He woke and began kissing her.

He trailed hot kisses over her breasts, her ribs, her belly, down lower until he reached the smooth, hairless juncture between her thighs. His hands and mouth moved over in tandem. They worked to create the most astounding pleasure.

The room was filled with the fresh light of dawn when Ailish’s eyes fluttered open. What had been an incredible dream morphed into reality. She whimpered and writhed when she realized that Jed really was between her legs. She reached down and brushed his dark, silky hair with her fingertips.

He raised his head and smiled at her.

“That’s certainly a unique good morning greeting,” Ailish whispered.

“The best I could think of.”

Jed shifted and moved over her, covering her naked body with his. It was hard to believe that in just two days she had learned so much about him. At least physically. She never thought it would be possible to go from being a stranger to someone to holding them intimately in her heart within the span of forty-eight hours. Some people had the privilege of knowing their lovers for a lifetime. Jed had only promised her a week.

With purposeful intent, Ailish pushed the sad thoughts out of her head.

She smiled up at Jed and was rewarded when his eyes lit up in response. His lips curled into a gentle smile before he leaned forward and kissed her.

Ailish opened her mouth to him. She tasted the spicy musk of her own juices on Jed. He kissed her deeply, awakening the fires of passion before rolling away. Ailish uttered a cry of protest and reached for him. Jed gathered her into his arms and tucked her against his side. He kissed her forehead but she could tell that he had something he needed to tell her.

“What is it?” Ailish whispered.

“Nothing. Don’t worry.”

She reached up and brushed a strand of dark hair away from Jed’s forehead. Her eyes searched his. “I don’t believe you.”

He chuckled softly. “You think you know me so well now, after only a few brief days that you can tell when I’m lying.”

“Most certainly.”

Jed frowned. “I have to admit it’s almost… strange the way I feel about you. Like I’ve known you for a lifetime, not a matter of days.”

Ailish nodded. “I know. I feel the same way. Maybe it was fate that we ended up together. Or maybe when you meet the person you’re truly meant to be with you’ll know it right away. I’ve heard of that before but I never put any credence in it. My parents once told me that when I asked them how I knew who the ‘one’ was when I first heard that saying. They said you just know. I thought it was bullshit but I get it now.”

Jed’s frown deepened. “I’m only going to be with you for a couple more days.
